Finding the “inner beauty" within Aker’s tubs and showers.

There are many questions that need considering when choosing a new shower or tub. Do you want a whirlpool tub? A separate tub and shower? Single or double showerheads? What style goes well with your decor? What color matches your color scheme? With all these decisions, you probably haven’t given a lot of thought to what’s underneath the style and color—the material that goes into Aker’s high quality tubs and showers.

Aker Plastics Company uses a composite laminate for its "anti-flex" tub and shower floors to create an extremely durable product. Here’s how they do it:

The color layer is an acrylic sheet and polyester gelcoat, which provide a long-lasting color finish. Below the color layer is a composite of fiberglass, polyester resins, and reinforcing materials, which form the structure of the unit. The laminate is created using double and triple material applications which are tightly compressed, resulting in a strong, void-free laminate. End-grain balsa wood is used as an inner core to ensure resistance to impact, bending and fatigue for long-term durability.

This method produces a tub or shower floor which is rigid and firm, eliminating creaks and groans. This "inner beauty" is just as important as the outer beauty when it comes to choosing a tub or shower unit for your new or remodeled bathroom.
